What we have done

Since CEDC was established in May 2003 we have worked with a range of agencies to enable them to comply with requirements set out in the BME Action Plan for Wales.

During 2003-2004 we undertook research into the needs of BME communities in:

  • Neath Port Talbot
  • Bridgend
  • Vale of Glamorgan
  • Merthyr Tydfil
  • Newport
  • Powys
  • Caerphilly
  • Blaenau Gwent
  • Cardiff

In each of the research projects we worked with the local race equality council, organisations representing BME communities and local BME residents to establish the housing needs and aspirations of BME communities.

During 2003 - 2004 we developed BME Housing Strategies for:

  • United Welsh Housing Association
  • Newport City Council
  • Powys County Council
  • Bridgend County Borough Council
  • Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council
  • Vale of Glamorgan Council

As part of the Welsh Assembly Government Housing Research Programme, we were appointed in partnership with CIH Cymru, to produce the following report:

  • Black and Minority Ethnic Housing: Good Practice Guidance for Social Landlords

In 2004 we were appointed by the following organisations to provide race equality and diversity training:

  • Cymdeithas Tai Cantref
  • Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association
  • Mid Wales Housing Association

In 2004 we were appointed by the Welsh Assembly Government to:

  • produce case studies for incorporation into guidance for social landlords on the implementation of the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003 in partnership with Rowan Associates
  • manage and report on the consultation about draft guidance for social landlords on the implementation of the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003, in partnership with CIH Cymru

In the summer of 2008 we were appointed by the Cadarn Housing Group to undertake an Equality Impact Assessment of customer facing services and produce a three year Equality Action Plan.
